V priamom oslovení sú známe tiež rôzne zdrobnené varianty (bapča, bapka, babenka, babička a podobne). Slúži aj ako základ na slovné vyjadrenie ďalších vzostupných generácií predkov pomocou predpony pra-, prapra-. Na rozsiahlom území stredného Slovenska sa otcova, matkina matka nazývala stará matka a na označenie 3. vzostupnej predkyne sa tu používal termín odvodený od dedo (dedouka);
