porézny výrobok z raz pálenej neglazovanej a nepatinovanej červenkastej, respektíve oranžovočervenej hliny. Menšie terakotové figurálne sošky boli známe už v praveku. Výrobu terakoty priviedli na vysoký stupeň umeleckej dokonalosti Rimania. Ich vplyvom sa na naše územie dostali medzi inými importovanými druhmi keramiky aj výrobky z terakoty (terra silligata).
